However, the movie never implies that any of the characters take the ancient Greek religion seriously.ĮSCAPE PLAN 2 contains high levels of violence strong foul language. “Hades,” the name of the prison, is a religious reference. Therefore, there is a sense of moral justice in Breslin’s crusade to bring down the prison. His prison is designed to torture inmates and turn them into animals. Breslin and his team are justified in their fight against the prison’s evil warden, the main “bad guy,” who is especially greedy, proud and cruel. Breslin is willing to do anything to help his friends, even risking his own life. These are very moral, redemptive beliefs and help add a positive message to what might be an otherwise concerning movie. There are serious issues of immorality and violence, but they are balanced by Breslin’s unique personal commitments, including self-control, patience, and love of friends. However, poor performances by Bautista and Wes Chatham really hurt the story. Stallone carries his own as usual, and Huang’s performance is actually the best in the movie. Also, the plot is very hard to follow, and scenes leap from place to place without much overt connection. A bad script is the main culprit, full of major inconsistencies and several holes. It fails in its attempts at humor, intrigue and mystery. Overall, though, ESCAPE PLAN 2 is just simply bad. There are also some mildly interesting action sequences. Watching Shu Ren develop a plan for escape is perhaps the movie’s best part. Inside the prison, Shu Ren searches desperately for a way to escape. Now, Breslin and his team must rescue their kidnapped comrade before he’s broken by Hades. However, things come to a halt when a member of Breslin’s team, Shu Ren (Xiaoming Huang), is mysteriously kidnapped and locked away in a secret, high-tech prison called Hades. He’s passing on his unique brand of wisdom and special training to a new generation of operatives. In the beginning of ESCAPE PLAN 2, Breslin is running a team of security specialists. Stallone stars, once again, as Ray Breslin, a high skilled operative trained to test prison security systems by breaking out of them - no matter how complex or strong.
